MUSIC MINISTRY

WHBC’s Music Ministry invites you to exercise your talents and gifts in reaching others for Jesus.  Children through adults have the opportunity to lift their voices in song through their participation in choirs and ensembles.

Graded Choirs
Children, Preschool through 4th grade, have fun while learning more about music and how it can be used for God’s glory through Graded Choirs.  The curriculum includes music, lessons in theory, games, activities, hymn and instrument studies as well as biblical studies.  Our two older Graded Choirs sing a number of times throughout the school year with two main presentations at Christmas and in the Spring.  Graded Choirs meet on Wednesday at 6:00pm following our family fellowship meal.

Youth Choirs
Our youth Choir, “New Life” is made up of 7th-12th graders and will sing approximately 12 times during the school year in addition to preparations for choir tour, averaging every other year.

The Youth Choirs present for their annual “Festival of Praise” in November which consists of the Youth Choir, Orchestra, Handbells, and Drama. Youth Choirs rehearse Sundays at 5:00 p.m.

Adult Choir
The WHBC Adult Choir involves adults college age and older. The choir rehearses Wednesdays at 7:15 p.m. in the choir room, and childcare is provided.  Following your second rehearsal, you are assigned a robe and folder and welcomed into the choir family.  The Adult Choir plays a major role in our Sunday morning worship time throughout the year.

The Adult Choir presents a Christmas Dinner Theatre annually in addition to a special spring presentation, i.e. Easter, Spirituals Concert, Praise & Worship Concert, etc.

College Ensemble
Our “One Accord” Ensemble is made up of college age students.  This is an auditioned group, and One Accord rehearses each Sunday afternoon at 4:00pm, and sings regularly throughout the school year.

Handbells
Handbell Choirs practice throughout the week and participate in worship services, special productions, and handbell festivals.
The adult handbell choir group rehearses each Sunday afternoon at 4:00pm.

Instrumental Music
In the Psalms, we are admonished to praise the Lord with “the sounding of the trumpet, praise Him with the harp and lyre, praise Him with tambourine and dancing, praise Him with the strings and flute, praise Him with the clash of cymbals…” (Psalm 150:3-5).  There are a number of ways to use your gifts and talents instrumentally to praise the Lord.

Sanctuary Orchestra
This group involves 10th grade students—adults and plays in morning worship on the first and third Sundays of the month.  They accompany the Adult Choir and provide offertories a number of times throughout the year. The Sanctuary Orchestra has special called rehearsals periodically in addition to rehearsing at 8:30 a.m. on the Sundays they play.

Youth Orchestra
This group made up of youth grades 7th-12th combine to play on the first and third Sunday nights during the Fall semester.  They accompany the youth choirs and play the offertory for the annual “Festival of Praise” service.
